French company Gourmey has submitted an approval application to the EU for its cultivated foie gras, along with applications to Switzerland, the UK, the US, and Singapore. The company aims to sell its product globally and focuses on providing for chefs.
The approval process in the EU is considered one of the most stringent in the world and is expected to take around 18 months. This collaborative process between experts and member states will determine the safety of Gourmey’s product as well as its potential social, economic, and environmental impacts. If approved, Gourmey’s cultivated meat will be available for sale in all 27 EU member states.
