Tindle Foods, a leader in plant-based meat alternatives, is strategically overhauling its business model by transitioning from branded products to a strong focus on private-label supply.

In alignment with this new direction, the company is shifting its focus toward European markets while planning to divest its U.S. operations.

In making this pivot, Tindle aims to supply unbranded plant-based proteins to large food manufacturers, supermarket chains, and restaurant groups, significantly cutting marketing and distribution costs.

This streamlined approach will allow Tindle to reinvest savings back into product development and operational efficiency. Timo Recker, CEO and founder of Tindle Foods, explained, “This strategic pivot follows a clear logic. The plant-based category has become increasingly price-driven, and we’re seeing that private label products are capturing a growing share.”

He continued, “We are well positioned to lead this shift by producing best-in-class, innovative products while also making the necessary adjustments to maintain value and accessibility for our customers.”

Recker recently resumed the role of CEO in December 2023 after co-founder Andre Menezes stepped down. Recker previously held this position from July 2020 until May 2021, when Menezes transitioned from COO to CEO.

Tindle’s product offerings have always centered around “simple, non-GMO” ingredients, reflecting a clean-label strategy designed to streamline regulatory processes and enhance consumer acceptance. The product range includes Tindle boneless wings, nuggets, tenders, and stuffed chicken.

The company emphasized that retailers and foodservice operators are increasingly seeking “ready-to-market, sustainable food solutions” to avoid the costs associated with their own research, development, and production. This is especially relevant as consumers demand affordable options that still deliver on “innovation, convenience, and great taste.”

Although Tindle previously viewed the U.S. market as a significant growth opportunity, the leadership team now identifies Europe as holding greater potential. Recker noted, “We are seeing greater growth potential in Europe, where consumer demand for plant-based innovations continues to rise—particularly among younger generations, who have fully adopted plant-based foods as part of their everyday lives and routines.”

Earlier this year, Tindle achieved its largest U.S. retail rollout, entering more than 500 stores within the Kroger Family of Companies, encompassing Fred Meyer, Ralphs, and Smith’s. This followed Tindle Chicken’s initial introduction in November 2023 to select Giant Eagle stores, available online via FreshDirect, and various independent retailers on the West Coast, including Berkeley Bowl and Besties Vegan Paradise.
