Sweden’s Klimato is revolutionizing the food service industry by allowing food providers, restaurants, and producers to effectively measure, report, and reduce carbon emissions from their food operations. Partnerships with major players like Sodexo, Hilton, and Violife have enabled Klimato to make a significant impact. Their cloud-based platform has already helped over 3,000 restaurants across Europe achieve an average annual reduction in their carbon footprint of 10.9%, surpassing the UN’s recommended rate of 7.6%.

Dynamify, a UK company specializing in digital ordering platforms, has joined forces with Klimato to further enhance their offerings. By integrating Klimato’s carbon labelling tool, they are empowering businesses to better manage their Scope 3 emissions, which include factors like agriculture, transportation, cooking, delivery, and waste. Remarkably, catering clients have already experienced emission reductions of up to 16% within just 12 months thanks to this partnership.

The carbon labelling service is being seamlessly incorporated into all ordering channels, enabling companies to identify carbon hotspots and implement necessary changes. By eliminating inefficiencies and making informed, strategic decisions, businesses can accelerate their journey towards carbon mitigation. Additionally, this increased visibility will raise awareness among customers about their own carbon consumption, resulting in more sustainable choices.

Erik Olsen, Head of Growth and UK Country Manager at Klimato, expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to meet the UK’s growing environmental demands. He highlighted the UK’s food industry, which currently contributes 35% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions. With the collaboration of Dynamify, Klimato is confident in achieving a 10.9% annual carbon footprint reduction, similar to their success in other regions.

Since its establishment in 2015, Dynamify has provided its comprehensive digital ordering platform to more than 3,000 off-the-street restaurants in various sectors, including offices, schools, hospitals, and airports. Equipped with a back-office dashboard that collects valuable data on customer behavior, this platform enables companies to execute targeted marketing campaigns, forecast sales, manage inventory, and reduce food waste.

Maxwell Harding, Founder of Dynamify, emphasized the positive impact of the combined efforts of his company and Klimato. Already showcasing a 23% reduction in carbon footprint within 18 months at current operating sites, he foresees a 30% carbon reduction forecast with the introduction of digital carbon labelling through additional ordering channels. The urgency of the climate emergency, along with events such as record-breaking heatwaves, has prompted businesses to expedite their path towards the UK’s net zero target by 2050. By incorporating digital carbon labelling, food service providers and retailers can adapt their product offerings to align with growing consumer awareness and demand for more sustainable options.
