Sales surged by 7% compared to 2023, with over 2 million customers flocking to Lidl stores across Britain in the lead-up to Christmas.
Among the most sought-after items were the popular pigs in blankets, amounting to more than 16 million packs sold. The retailer also distributed 750,000 turkey roasting joints.
In addition, customers purchased 8 million stuffing balls and 2 million litres of gravy, while a staggering 6,500 tonnes of vegetables were sold in the week of Christmas alone.
On the beverage side, Lidl reported sales equivalent to 11 million glasses of sparkling wine, bolstered by a remarkable 25% year-on-year increase in Champagne sales.
Notably, during December 2024, the discounter donated approximately 1.25 million meals through its partnership with Neighbourly and contributed £125,000 in grants to local charities.
Consumers ‘trust’ Lidl
Currently, Lidl operates around 970 stores across England, Scotland, and Wales, employing approximately 34,000 individuals.
This includes the ten new locations launched before Christmas, which created around 400 job opportunities.
Ryan McDonnell, CEO at Lidl GB, expressed enthusiasm, stating that after 30 years of operation in Britain, the retailer was delighted to witness an unprecedented influx of customers.
“That’s a strong reflection of the trust our customers place in us and the dedication of our colleagues and suppliers, who work so hard to deliver an outstanding Christmas for the communities we serve,” McDonnell emphasized.
“In 2024, we continued to raise the bar with product innovation, especially within our Deluxe range, as well as supporting all the community initiatives that are deeply important to us. It’s all been about bringing people together and sharing the joy of Christmas.”
Looking ahead, McDonnell conveyed Lidl’s eagerness to build on this success by expanding its presence nationwide and “continuing to deliver the highest quality at the best prices on the market.”
