A recent report by the Guardian highlighted an alarming incident involving a lorry carrying 35,200 pints of Guinness that went missing from a logistics hub in Daventry last month. This hub operates under a subcontractor associated with the logistics partner of Diageo, the owner of Guinness.
When approached for comment, Diageo chose to remain silent regarding the vehicle’s disappearance. Additionally, it remains uncertain whether Northamptonshire Police have been notified of this incident.
Addressing the Guinness Shortage
This missing shipment posed significant concerns, as it was meant for pubs nationwide struggling with an increasing shortage of Guinness amid heightened demand for the popular stout.
In light of this situation, a Diageo spokesperson explained that the company must “manage the distribution” of Guinness to its on-trade customers across Britain.
“Over the past month, we have seen exceptional consumer demand for Guinness in GB,” the spokesperson stated. Furthermore, they assured that they have maximized supply and are actively collaborating with customers to ensure efficient distribution.
“We are working proactively with our customers to manage the distribution as efficiently as possible.”
