The privately-owned sweets manufacturer has successfully transitioned to a new facility, reflecting its sustained growth over recent years. According to Innova Marketing Insights, the UK sugar confectionery market has experienced a consistent rise, with sales increasing by 5% and volume by 3% over the last five years. Notably, almost half of UK consumers purchased sugar confectionery in the past year, surpassing the global average of 40%.

As British consumers indulge their sweet tooth amidst a growing healthy food trend, nostalgia remains a key driver in purchasing decisions. Stockley’s has capitalized on this sentiment, achieving double-digit growth primarily through its classic offerings, including fudge and Liquorice Flyers.

From Blackburn to Burnley: A Strategic Relocation

Established in Accrington in 1918, Stockley’s has long been a leading supplier of both branded and private label confectionery. Over the past century, the company has operated from various locations within a 10-mile radius.

Previously, the business was based in Blackburn for the last 15 years. The recent move to a 60,000 square foot facility in Burnley—just 10 miles down the road—allows the manufacturer to retain its dedicated workforce.

The relocation occurred during the summer, with full operations commencing in mid-September. Simultaneously, the company achieved BRC AA accreditation for its new facility, further solidifying its commitment to quality.

Enhanced Capabilities and Product Offerings

The Burnley site is three times larger than the previous location, enabling Stockley’s to retain its traditional handcrafted methods while expanding its product range. This additional space facilitates growth in hard-boiled sweets, fudge, and liquorice-themed products.

Mark Adcock, managing director at Stockley’s, stated that the “positive growing pains” inspired the business to invest further. He emphasized that this modest 10-mile move ensures the company stays “true to the business’s proud Lancashire roots.”

The expansion aligns with a recent brand refresh and the introduction of new offerings, including sugar-free sharing bags available in six nostalgic flavors: Sherbet Lemons, Chocolate Limes, Rhubarb & Custards, Pear Drops, Blackcurrant Liquorice, and Mint Humbugs.
