Gallo has introduced Cabana California Rosé, a wine specifically aimed at the UK market, created for British consumers who prefer a slightly sweeter taste in a premium but accessible format. Priced at £8.50, this rosé targets individuals aged 25 to 40 who seek a combination of quality, value, and contemporary design.
The motivation behind Gallo’s rosé creation for the UK stems from the rapid expansion of the rosé sector. Currently, rosé sales are exceeding those of still wine in the UK off-trade by 7.4 percentage points, with Californian rosé accounting for 2.2 million 9l cases—indicating that one out of every four rosé bottles sold in this market is sourced from the United States.
Recognizing this trend, Gallo saw a potential for a sweeter, premium rosé that aligns with British preferences. Younger consumers, in particular, are gravitating towards wines that offer a balanced sweetness alongside trendy packaging, creating a ripe environment for product innovation.
Cabana California Rosé aims to provide British consumers with:
– A gently sweet flavor profile designed to offer approachable sweetness without being overly sweet.
– A premium yet accessible price point of £8.50, ensuring a balance of quality and affordability.
– An appeal skewed towards women aged 25 to 40, who prioritize both style and taste.
– A Californian origin that brings a unique US flavor profile, adapted for the British palate.
Mark Stammers, Head of Sales, states that the wine is “built for the UK rosé drinker” and is already finding a positive response among retailers and customers alike.
Cabana California Rosé will be available nationwide, featuring in Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, and over 3,200 Premier stores via Booker. It will also make its way into bars and restaurants, enhancing brand visibility across various channels.
To support this launch, Gallo has planned an extensive summer marketing campaign, including a collaboration with TV personality Tasha Ghouri to capitalize on popular travel trends.
This introduction of a UK-focused rosé wine signals a broader shift in consumer preferences, wherein British drinkers are increasingly seeking wines that are stylish, slightly sweeter in taste, and represent good value. Thus, Gallo’s strategic approach positions Cabana to stimulate growth in a category increasingly influenced by younger consumers.
