Magnavale has officially commenced construction on its new cold storage facility in Bristol, which is projected to have a remarkable capacity for 90,000 pallets once it becomes operational.
This state-of-the-art facility is set to provide comprehensive cold storage solutions and value-added services tailored specifically for both existing and new clients in the food sector. Magnavale aims to enhance its service offerings significantly through this new establishment.
Strategically located at the junction of the M4 and M5 motorways, the Bristol site offers unparalleled access to South Wales and the Southwest of England. This prime location is expected to serve as a logistical advantage, facilitating efficient distribution and supply chain management for local food businesses.
Amanda Cogan, Chief Operations Officer at Magnavale, expressed her enthusiasm for the project: “This groundbreaking represents the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Magnavale Network. Magnavale Bristol will be a critical partner for food businesses in the region, providing capacity and innovation where it is most needed.” This statement underscores Magnavale’s commitment to supporting the food industry in the area.
Additionally, Andrew Lawrence, Director of the investment company Sadel Group, highlighted the importance of this development. He stated: “Breaking ground today represents a major step forward in addressing the longstanding cold storage gap in the Southwest. With works now underway, we are on course to deliver one of the UK’s most advanced automated facilities, designed to support supply chain resilience, food security, and sustainability for decades to come.” This sentiment emphasizes the facility’s role in enhancing regional food security and sustainability.
The new Bristol facility is modeled after the recently completed Magnavale Easton site located in Lincolnshire. This previous site showcases “advanced automation, cutting-edge refrigeration systems, and dynamic mezzanine floors.” These innovative features will not only support cold storage but will also enable a variety of value-added services such as picking, packing, date coding, and export handling—crucial functions for businesses in today’s fast-paced market.
As construction progresses, heavy machinery is actively engaged in clearing the site and preparing the ground for subsequent stages of development. In the upcoming weeks, contractors will shift their focus to foundation work and piling operations, laying the essential groundwork for the establishment of this cutting-edge facility.
