Westfalia Fruit has acquired Belgium-based avocado product manufacturer Syros for an undisclosed sum.
Established three decades ago, Syros delivers “high-quality” avocado-based products to European supermarkets, restaurant chains, and meal box companies.
The company operates under two primary brands: Syros for the professional market and Wonky for consumers.
Its product line further encompasses a diverse range of guacamole options.
Wim Destoop, the regional president of Westfalia Fruit’s European operations, stated, “This acquisition strengthens our value-added business in Europe and aligns perfectly with our growth strategy.”
He continued, “Syros has been a trusted partner for many years, with Westfalia supplying a high percentage of their raw materials. Their commitment to quality and sustainability mirrors our own values, making this a natural next step for both companies.”
In a statement, Westfalia emphasized that integrating Syros will “enhance” its presence in the European market “while upholding the high standards for which both organizations are renowned.”
Syros CEO Pieter Casneuf remarked, “For three decades, Syros has focused on ‘making food happen’ by providing flavor-rich, high-quality food in a sustainable way.”
He added, “Joining Westfalia, with whom we have worked together already for many years, will empower us to continue this mission with even greater capabilities and reach.”
Operating across 17 countries on five continents, Westfalia’s robust portfolio encompasses not just fresh produce but also value-added offerings like avocado oil, frozen avocado, and low-preservative guacamole.
Furthermore, Westfalia stated that acquiring Syros is part of its “ongoing strategy to expand the company’s global presence.”
In October 2023, the company secured a $300m loan facility from three financial institutions to boost production and explore new markets.
