Imagindairy, a leading company in the food and beverage industry, has achieved a significant milestone in its quest to bring animal-free dairy protein to consumers nationwide. The company recently announced that it has self-affirmed its whey protein as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS), following a rigorous internal and external review process.
Securing self-affirmed GRAS status marks a pivotal step for Imagindairy as it looks to commercialize its animal-free dairy protein. This designation gives food and beverage manufacturers the assurance that the ingredient is safe for use in their products. It serves as a regulatory ‘green light,’ opening up the opportunity for partnerships with Imagindairy to create animal-free versions of beloved dairy products such as milk, cream cheese, and yogurt.
Imagindairy now joins the ranks of other innovative companies in the space, like Perfect Day and Remilk, who have also received recognition from the FDA for their animal-free whey proteins. By utilizing precision fermentation and a proprietary AI platform, Imagindairy has developed a process that enables the production of complex organic molecules on a mass scale, while maintaining costs that are competitive with traditional dairy.
To support its anticipated partnerships with food and beverage manufacturers and the scaling up of its protein production, Imagindairy is establishing a new headquarters near Haifa, Israel. This state-of-the-art facility will house research and development labs, a test kitchen, and a pilot line for culinary and ingredient applications.
The expansion is made possible in part by a recent seed funding round that raised $15 million. Investors, including Target Global, Strauss Group, and FoodSparks by PeakBridge, recognize the potential of Imagindairy’s innovative technology and are confident in its ability to revolutionize the food and beverage industry.
Imagindairy is also working closely with other companies in the precision fermentation space and has contributed to the establishment of the Precision Fermentation Alliance and Food Fermentation Europe. These collaborations aim to promote the technology at the heart of Imagindairy’s production, not only in the United States but also in Europe.
As the company continues to pioneer food manufacturing trends and technological advancements in the field, it remains committed to sustainability, adhering to food and drink regulations, optimizing packaging, and staying ahead of consumer trends in the food and beverage industry. With its groundbreaking animal-free dairy protein, Imagindairy is poised to make a lasting impact on the market, offering consumers a sustainable and ethical alternative to traditional dairy products.
