Kellanova to Enhance Cereal Production at Welsh Facility Kellanova Food and Beverage Business

Kellanova, the manufacturer behind Kellogg’s cereals, has announced a substantial investment of £75 million ($98 million) to enhance cereal production at its facility in Wrexham, UK. This investment underscores Kellanova’s commitment to the food and beverage industry trends, aiming to meet rising consumer demand for its popular products.

The Wrexham site, operational since 1978, is expected to see production levels more than double, reaching approximately 1.5 million boxes of cereal daily. This expansion will include the manufacture of well-known brands such as Special K, All Bran, Bran Flakes, and Fruit ‘n Fibre.

As part of this strategic move, several other Kellogg’s cereal brands currently produced in the UK, such as Corn Flakes and Crunchy Nut, will transition to the Wrexham factory. This shift comes as Kellanova plans to close its Trafford Park facility in Manchester, which is scheduled to cease operations by late 2026. The closure will result in a significant loss of approximately 360 jobs, as Kellanova cited the Manchester site’s production as no longer viable.

In a recent statement, Kellanova emphasized the importance of streamlining its operations. The company further noted that the fresh investment would facilitate the creation of at least 130 new jobs at the Wrexham site. The addition of two new production lines will enhance manufacturing sustainability through the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning technology.

Chris Silcock, Managing Director of Kellanova UK, remarked, “This investment is a major commitment to cereal production in the UK. By consolidating the manufacturing of all our major breakfast cereals at one site in Wrexham, we can make significant leaps forward in the efficiency, quality, and sustainability of our operation. It sets us up for future success and opens up new possibilities for our iconic brands to continue delighting our customers and consumers.”

Currently, Kellanova employs approximately 1,000 staff at its UK headquarters in Salford and the Wrexham factory. As the company navigates the evolving food and drink consumer trends, this investment positions Kellanova to respond more effectively to market demands and solidify its place within the food and drink business landscape.
