US-based Atalanta Corp. has acquired Big Picture Foods, a business specializing in clean ingredients. Financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed.
This strategic move by Atalanta aims to enhance its product lineup, responding to the growing demand for sustainable and organic options within the food and beverage industry. With this acquisition, Big Picture Foods will retain its independent brand identity and team, allowing it to benefit from Atalanta’s support to effectively scale its operations, expand market reach, and continue delivering high-quality, clean ingredient products.
Big Picture Foods is primarily recognized for its Mediterranean offerings, which include olives, peppers, and capers.
“We are thrilled to welcome Big Picture Foods to the Atalanta family,” expressed Tom Gellert, president of Atalanta. “Their commitment to quality and sustainability perfectly complements our values, and we are excited to bring their exceptional products to even more consumers.”
Atalanta stands as one of the largest food importers in the United States, serving both foodservice and retail markets under well-known brands such as Del Destino and Celebrity. Established in 1945 and part of the Gellert Global Group, Atalanta specializes in importing cheese, charcuterie, deli meats, grocery items, and seafood.
The acquisition of Big Picture Foods represents Atalanta’s second expansion initiative in 2024, following its earlier addition of JA Kirsch this year.
“We’re excited to join the Atalanta family,” said Daniela Jensen, co-founder of Big Picture Foods. “This partnership allows us to remain true to our mission of creating clean ingredient foods that nourish people, support farmers, and restore the planet, while gaining access to the extensive resources that Atalanta brings. Together, we will continue to innovate and transform our food system for the better.”
This merger reflects significant trends in the food and drink business, particularly in consumer demand for transparency and healthier food options. As the industry evolves, partnerships like these are vital in meeting consumer expectations and enhancing sustainability in food production.
