In a significant move within the dairy industry, French dairy group Savencia Fromage & Dairy has recently reached an agreement to acquire its Brazilian counterpart, Quatá Alimentos, for an undisclosed amount. This strategic acquisition underscores Savencia’s commitment to expanding its global footprint in the dairy sector.
Through this acquisition, Savencia will gain access to a diverse range of products under the Quatá brand, which enjoys a strong reputation across Brazil. Additionally, the company markets items under the well-known Glória brand, further enhancing Savencia’s portfolio of dairy offerings.
Savencia has highlighted the Quatá portfolio as offering “a wide, complementary range of cheese and dairy products,” thereby emphasizing the strategic fit between the two companies. This acquisition allows Savencia to better serve its customers and expand its market reach within Brazil.
Olivier Delaméa, the CEO of Savencia, stated that the acquisition “reinforces” the group’s operations in Brazil, where it has established a presence since the 1970s with popular brands such as Polenghi, Campo Lindo, Polenguinho, and Frescatino.
Delaméa further remarked, “This is an important step in our growth journey in Brazil as it will enable Savencia to complement its portfolio and strengthen its position in the Brazilian dairy market.” This strategic alliance reflects Savencia’s dedication to driving growth and innovation in the region.
It is important to note that the transaction remains subject to review and clearance by Brazil’s antitrust authority, CADE, in accordance with local competition regulations. This ensures that the acquisition aligns with legal frameworks and promotes fair competition.
In a joint statement, the founders of Quatá Alimentos, José Henrique Coutinho and Maurício Franco, expressed their enthusiasm, stating, “Today, we are taking a new step in our history by joining the great Savencia family. This alliance honors Quatá’s journey and strengthens our commitment to continue its development.”
Quatá Alimentos has a rich history, having been established in 1990. The company operates seven manufacturing facilities across four states in Brazil, which include three sites in Minas Gerais, two in São Paulo, one in Paraná, and one in Rio de Janeiro. This geographic distribution adds significant logistical advantages to the overall operation.
