Germany’s Ehrmann has acquired UK-based Trewithen Dairy, a move that will see the expansion of facilities and the opening of a production plant in Cornwall, England. The new plant is set to open in 2026 and will produce Ehrmann pudding products for distribution throughout the UK, contributing to around 15% of Ehrmann’s global sales annually. The acquisition will also involve a £20m investment in Trewithen Dairy’s processing capacity, with a focus on supporting local dairy farmers in the region.
Christian Ehrmann, chairman of Ehrmann, highlighted the significance of the acquisition, stating, “Ehrmann has enjoyed success in the UK over the last two years working with major supermarket chains to bring new dairy tastes to consumers. The acquisition is highly significant as it opens up local UK production; enabling us to reduce the carbon footprint and guarantee the freshness of our products.”
Trewithen Dairy owner, Francis Clarke, emphasized the shared values of quality and sustainable growth between the two companies, expressing enthusiasm for the collaboration. In the financial year 2023, Trewithen Dairy reported a turnover of £95.88m, marking an increase from the previous year. Despite an operating loss, the business showed improvement in its overall financial performance.
Ehrmann specializes in producing pudding cups, yogurts, and yogurt drinks, with distribution in 75 countries from seven international production sites. The deal between Ehrmann and Trewithen Dairy is expected to breathe new life into the Cornish dairy industry, marking a new phase of growth for both companies.
