In the height of July, during the peak of the crisp season, picnic baskets, barbeques, and office drink spreads are all the rage. This is a time when seasoned snacking enthusiasts are on the lookout for the latest in debonair yet unapologetic flavour profiles.
This Summer, the pioneering New Zealand wine brand Brancott Estate has partnered with gourmet crisp luminaries Made for Drink to introduce two new crisp flavours that pair seamlessly with its flagship Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs. This limited edition collaboration taps into the latest trend of wine and crisp pairings on social media.
Both of the new flavors, Pickled Onion and Chilli & Lemon, have been meticulously crafted to echo Brancott Estate’s unconventional approach to wine and life.
Pickled Onion – perfectly paired with Brancott Classic Sauvignon Blanc
A retro classic; the acidity of the pickling spices and onions perfectly balances out the acidity of the Sauvignon Blanc, allowing the herbaceous and passionfruit characteristics to shine through, enhancing the aromatic flavors.
Chilli & Lemon – perfectly paired with Flight Sauvignon Blanc
The fresh lemon in the crisps complements the citrusy aromas of Brancott Estate’s lower ABV (9%) Sauvignon Blanc, without obscuring the tropical ripe fruit flavors. The lighter alcohol content of Brancott Estate Flight allows the spice to be dialed up with a pleasant hint of bird’s eye chili.
Founder at Made for Drink, Dan Featherstone expresses excitement about the partnership with Brancott Estate, stating, “We wanted to create the perfect pairing for New Zealand’s most popular wine, Sauvignon Blanc.”
White wines like Sauvignon Blanc have more acidity than red or sweet wines, which cleanses the palate especially with fatty or oily foods like crisps. The saltiness of the crisp emphasizes the richness of the Sauvignon Blanc, while the satisfying crunch brings out the fruity flavors of the wine on the palate.
As a trend, wine and crisp pairings are gaining popularity among food enthusiasts and wine connoisseurs, offering accessibility compared to the classic cheese and wine combination.
Lucy Bearman, wine portfolio director at Pernod Ricard, states, “Brancott Estate is all about seeing the world differently leading to wonderful things.” She emphasizes how the brand’s collaboration with Made for Drink invites crisp and wine lovers to savor the unconventional and taste life on the flipside.
