Beneo has introduced its innovative ‘Sweets Box,’ a carefully curated selection of sugar-free candy concepts aimed at empowering manufacturers to rethink classic hard boiled sweets and stimulate fresh creativity in a sector poised for renewal.

At the heart of this initiative is Beneo’s flagship sugar substitute, Isomalt, which illustrates how contemporary flavor trends, multi-sensory experiences, and versatile technical applications can revitalize one of the confectionery industry’s long-standing formats.

The Sweets Box has been crafted through a collaborative effort between Beneo’s market insights team and application specialists at the Beneo-Technology Center. It features cutting-edge prototypes that engage all the senses. Each concept showcases the adaptability of sugar-free hard candies to address diverse consumer preferences, flavor trends, and different occasions, while still delivering exceptional taste, visual appeal, and functional advantages.

Highlighted within the collection are several standout concepts, including three candy varieties inspired by popular beverages, which translate familiar drink experiences into portable, sugar-free options.

The Yuzu & Matcha Liquid Filled Candy meets the growing demand for gourmet flavors and Asian-inspired combinations. By blending zesty yuzu with a matcha liquid filling, this concept aligns with the increasing interest in unique flavor pairings and immersive multi-sensory experiences driven by social media. Its liquid center not only enhances texture but also adds visual intrigue, providing manufacturers with a premium, distinctive choice.

The Caramel Coffee Candy taps into the expanding global coffee market, anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 9% over the next five years. This candy offers a harmonious coffee flavor enhanced with a caffeine boost, presenting a practical, sugar-free solution for consumers seeking focus and energy amid their busy schedules.

The Energy Drink Candy captures the unique flavor profile of energy drinks in a hard candy form, specifically targeting young adults who want a quick, shareable caffeine source without the sugar. Its bold taste and functional angle position it as a compelling option for on-the-go consumers.

Klaudia Volmer, product manager for functional carbohydrates at Beneo, emphasizes that hard boiled candies are an incredibly flexible format with considerable unexploited potential.

Beneo believes that these new concepts reveal how integrating market knowledge with technical skills can create pathways for innovation.

“As the leading sugar replacer for hard boiled candy globally, Isomalt is central to this initiative. It allows producers to design sugar-free offerings that align with current standards for taste, functionality, and visual appeal,” says Volmer. “Our latest innovations will pave the way for our clients, reinvigorating a traditional product category with exciting new prospects.”
