Asda is expanding its fleet by adding 112 home delivery vans and charging points at various stores across the UK. This strategic move will increase Asda’s total fleet to 194 vehicles, with the rollout commencing this month.
By September 2025, 21 Asda stores in the UK will operate entirely with a fully electric home delivery van fleet. These electric vehicles are anticipated to facilitate over 1 million deliveries before the end of the year.
With a driving range of up to 130 miles, these electric vans are expected to contribute to a significant reduction of approximately 1,700 kg of CO2 emissions annually.
Asda initially introduced electric delivery fleets in 2023 at its locations in Gillingham Pier, Old Kent Road, and Sheffield Chaucer, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable logistics.
In a further commitment to sustainability, Asda has also invested in two new Bio-LNG (liquefied natural gas) refueling facilities, enhancing its eco-friendly initiatives. Notably, Asda operates the largest fleet of LNG-fueled trucks in the UK with over 780 vehicles.
“We’re always looking at how we can better serve our customers and for new ways to reduce our carbon emissions as a business, so we’re delighted to be more than doubling our electric fleet of grocery home shopping vehicles,” said Emma Newton, senior director for ecommerce last mile at Asda.
Asda boasts approximately 1,100 stores across the UK, comprising 610 superstores and 478 Express stores. The company is primarily owned by TDR Capital (67.5%), Mohsin Issa (22.5%), and Walmart Inc (10%).
