The company stated that their collaboration enhances Trayforma’s offerings by improving material efficiency across its range, providing a new choice for brands aiming for a natural shelf appearance.
The newly designed lighter Trayforma maintains the same strength, forming performance, and converting reliability as the existing baseboard, while utilizing less raw material. This reduction in material per tray not only improves yield throughout the value chain, but also lowers the board’s weight, which contributes to a reduced carbon footprint during production and transportation—a vital aspect of food and drink sustainability.
Responding to the increasing demand for premium natural aesthetics in packaging, Trayforma Brown meets the same high-performance standards as its counterparts. It is the first brown tray board that supports oven heating, withstanding temperatures up to 220°C, thanks to its transparent PET coating. Moreover, it is offered with a high-barrier BarrPeel solution specifically designed for vacuum-skin packaging, aligning with evolving trends in food and drink packaging.
“For our customers, the natural look of brown board is increasingly relevant, but not at the cost of performance. With Trayforma Brown, they don’t have to make that trade-off. And with our advancements in lightweighting Trayforma, everyone in the value chain benefits from better yield,” said Jaana Tani, technical account manager for Trayforma and barriers at Stora Enso.
Both Trayforma products feature a robust three-ply structure that incorporates CTMP in the middle layer. This design allows for a reduced basis weight while maintaining thickness, making Trayforma Brown ideal for various applications, including ready meals, bakery items, and chilled or frozen foods—a significant consideration in food and drink marketing.
Trayforma Brown and the lightweight Trayforma range will be showcased at Interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf, Germany, from May 7 to 13. This event presents a valuable opportunity to explore innovative solutions in sustainable packaging that align with current food and drink consumer trends.
