Spain-based MaserGrup has acquired the contract manufacturing operations of North American food producer Skjodt-Barrett.
The family-owned company said the transaction covers Skjodt-Barrett’s third-party manufacturing business in the US and Canada.
The deal includes the company’s production assets in Lebanon, Indiana, including a 50,000-square-metre manufacturing site. Financial details were not disclosed.
The acquired operations will be renamed SBFoods and placed within MaserGrup’s baby-food division, Fruselva.
MaserGrup said it would retain Skjodt-Barrett’s existing contract manufacturing team, comprising 350 employees in the US and ten in Canada. It also expects to add almost 100 roles to support the “expected growth in activity”.
According to MaserGrup, the acquisition will reinforce its position as a “leading manufacturer of pouch-format products”.
The group said the additional production capacity would enable it to serve more international food brands and retailers. It also expects the transaction to “reinforce its presence” in a category spanning infant nutrition and healthy snacks for children.
MaserGrup founder and president Xavier Martínez said: “This acquisition represents a major milestone in our business project.
“Skjodt-Barrett has built a high-quality organisation, with top-tier customers, major suppliers, deep sector expertise and a highly qualified team. We want to build on these strengths to open a new stage of joint development and continue providing the best possible service to our customers.”
Skjodt-Barrett’s contract manufacturing business produces a range of food and beverage products, including baby food, fruit snacks for children, protein smoothies, cooking sauces, dressings and condiments.
With Skjodt-Barrett generating more than $150m in revenue and producing over 300 million units each year, MaserGrup anticipates that its consolidated revenue will surpass €400m in 2027.
MaserGrup, which also operates in the construction and real estate sectors, reported revenue of €224m in 2025.
Earlier this year, the Reus-based group announced plans to allocate €100m to expansion, including new manufacturing facilities and mergers and acquisitions.
In June last year, MaserGrup invested in Swiss organic baby-food company Holle Baby Food. A month later, it acquired Spanish spirits producer Perucchi 1876 through its Vermuts Miró business.
