Saica Flex has introduced a new paper-based packaging option that is designed to be recyclable within the paper waste stream. This innovative packaging is suitable for heat sealable packing processes and can be produced coated or uncoated depending on the desired final appearance.
Throughout the development process, a strong focus was placed on optimizing the conversion and Vertical Form Fill Seal (VFFS) packing processes. This ensured a high printing quality, optimal functionality, and ease-of-use for machine-packing lines. The goal was to guarantee that the contents reached consumers in perfect conditions, with a focus on required mechanical and sealing performance.
The product has been developed to meet the sustainability standards set by the Confederation of European Paper (CEPI). Miguel Angel Dora, general manager at Saica Flex, emphasized the company’s commitment to packaging sustainability. He highlighted the importance of collaborations with like-minded companies, such as Mondelez, in achieving their sustainability goals.
Dora expressed Saica Flex’s ambition to make all their flexible monomaterial structures, including paper, recyclable by 2025. This commitment aligns with their vision of contributing towards a truly circular economy by ensuring that 100% of their flexible packaging offer is recyclable.
The implementation of these sustainable packaging solutions reflects a growing emphasis on food and drink sustainability in the industry. As consumer trends continue to prioritize eco-friendly options, businesses must adapt their packaging strategies to align with these values. Saica Flex’s innovative approach to sustainable packaging is a step towards meeting the demands of environmentally conscious consumers.
