Sabert Corporation Europe proudly announces the launch of its innovative range of fully home compostable and recyclable foodservice packaging. Crafted from renewable plant-based resources, this collection is free of intentionally added PFAS and adheres to all compliance standards.

This launch underscores Sabert’s steadfast commitment to innovation, with products meticulously developed and validated over time to meet the performance expectations of customers.

“We chose to take our time rather than rush to market,” explains Alex Noake, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Sabert Europe. “Most ‘PFAS free’ solutions we’ve tested simply haven’t performed as expected. We have received numerous requests from customers who recognize Sabert as a credible innovator in pulp packaging. We confidently provide pulp solutions that are food safe, home compostable, recyclable, and reliable in demanding foodservice and retail environments.”

“In the foodservice market, pulp packaging without added PFAS has historically encountered performance issues. Sabert’s new lines are specifically designed to address these gaps,” Noake adds. “Recently, I experienced an Asian-fusion meal served in a pulp tray lined with greaseproof paper—an indication that the bagasse tray itself was inadequate. The outcome was predictable: the paper became soggy, tore apart, and mingled with the food, compromising both the dining experience and sustainability efforts. Alarmingly, many of those greaseproof liners still contain PFAS, completely undermining the use of a ‘PFAS free’ base. Our objective is to eliminate these compromises by developing solutions that operate flawlessly without requiring additional packaging or shortcuts.”

In response to evolving regulatory demands, Sabert has transformed its entire pulp portfolio into the HC (home compostable) range. Building on that foundation, Sabert is set to introduce Pulp Ultra—a next-generation formulation that contains no intentionally added PFAS and meets both legislative requirements and customer desires for exceptional strength and heat resistance—available early next year. Together, these offerings provide customers with a choice between standard home-compostable options and ‘Ultra’ high-performance solutions, both adhering to Sabert’s rigorous quality standards.

Prepare for Upcoming European Regulations

“At Sabert, we prioritize food safety,” states Isabelle Ernotte, Sabert Quality Environment, Health & Safety Manager. “Every product we create undergoes thorough testing to ensure compliance with food safety standards. We remain committed to supporting customers in a responsible and confident transition as new legislation is implemented.”

Sabert’s existing pulp ranges that contain PFAS substances continue to meet compliance and safety requirements for use, abiding by all current UK, European, and national food-contact regulations. Starting 12 August 2026, Regulation (EU) No 40/2025 on packaging and packaging waste (PPWR) will introduce new measures, including Article 5(5) paragraph 5, which imposes restrictions and limits on the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often referred to as ‘forever chemicals’ due to their environmental persistence. Sabert’s newest solutions position customers ahead of these changes by offering products that already fulfill the next generation of sustainability standards.

“Sabert has over 40 years of experience in delivering innovative, value-added food and drink packaging products that adhere to the highest quality standards, backed by exceptional customer service,” concludes Noake. “Our mission is to provide our clients with the best guarantees in terms of quality, safety, and service. We encourage discussions to ensure you select the most suitable food and drink sustainable packaging or to better understand the potential impacts of upcoming legislation.”
