Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has introduced a revolutionary secondary paper packaging solution for wrapping bundles of food and drinks, aiming to replace traditional plastic shrink film in the industry.
The innovative paper solution, TrayWrap, utilizes Mondi’s Advantage StretchWrap and is currently being utilized by a coffee brand to secure 12 coffee packages during transportation across Sweden.
TrayWrap securely holds the coffee packs in place with 4-6 adhesive dots on the bottom side of a corrugated tray. It features pre-punched folding points for stability on every open side, allowing for easy visibility, stacking, transportation, and unpacking of products for sale.
Advantage StretchWrap is crafted from 100% renewable kraft paper, ensuring sustainability. With no coating and full recyclability, it is easily disposed of in Europe’s existing paper recycling streams. The solution’s mechanical properties provide high strength, excellent puncture resistance, and great stretchability, aligning with future regulatory requirements in Europe for grouped packaging applications.
Through collaboration with Meurer, Mondi has ensured that existing machinery can be seamlessly adapted to incorporate TrayWrap. The technology used is similar to film technology, simplifying the modification of processes for food and drink producers without the need for new equipment. Independent testing has validated the solution’s effectiveness.
Meurer’s Paper Hood Machine (PHM) utilizes an in-line paper technology with high mechanical stress resistance. It can efficiently handle various paper qualities, including Mondi’s Advantage StretchWrap, and different tray formats.
Larsgoran Berglund, Business Development Manager Kraft Paper at Mondi, emphasizes the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. “Our goal is to provide solutions that benefit products, customers, and the environment. Collaborating with Meurer allows us to pave a sustainable path convenient for customers, supporting their sustainability goals.”
Jens Averbeck, Senior Global Key Account Manager at Meurer, is excited to partner with Mondi to develop secure and effective packaging solutions that reduce or replace unnecessary plastic in the food and drink industry. This showcases the effectiveness of paper in securing goods and addresses current challenges in the FMCG sector.
Mondi and Meurer will host a live webinar on Thursday, 13 June at 10 am to discuss the technical features of TrayWrap and its end uses in food and drink packaging. Register for the webinar here.
