Sappi’s innovative flexible packaging paper, Guard ICC, stands out in the market. It is specifically crafted for applications requiring dimensional stability and double-sided protection, making it an ideal choice for ice cream cone packaging. This product is suitable for direct food contact and boasts excellent barrier properties against water vapor and grease on both sides. Made from bleached kraft paper with a machine-glazed finish, Guard ICC also excels in flexographic and gravure printing processes, as well as in conversion techniques such as gluing and die cutting.
With its premium and distinctive appearance, Sappi ensures that brand owners can create a strong impact at the point of sale (POS). Additionally, the paper is easily recyclable within the paper waste stream.

Sappi introduces Guard OHS, a versatile barrier paper suitable for numerous flexible packaging applications, including flow wraps, sachets, and pouches for both food and non-food products. Available in three printing options—Natural (62 g/m²), Silk, and Gloss (77 g/m²)—all versions of Guard OHS feature exceptional barrier properties such as resistance to water vapor, oxygen, MOSH/MOAH, aroma, and grease. These attributes make Guard OHS ideal for direct food contact, ensuring optimal performance in food and drink packaging applications. Moreover, the papers comply with purity requirements for toy safety, making them fit for various non-food uses. With Guard OHS, Sappi offers a reliable, recyclable alternative for packaging that demands safety without the need for high barriers.
Third in the Lineup: Guard Twist Gloss
Guard Twist Gloss is uniquely tailored for the confectionery sector, specifically for wrapping sugar sweets and chocolate. This one-sided coated paper boasts high tear strength, making it particularly suitable for twisting applications. It also features a functional coating on the reverse side that provides mild grease resistance and optimal food protection. The glossy top surface of the machine-finished Guard Twist Gloss gives products a premium feel while presenting an eye-catching appearance. With excellent printability and processing capabilities, Guard Twist Gloss minimizes issues such as fold and color cracking. This barrier paper, available in a grammage of 45g/m², is suitable for direct food contact and represents an attractive alternative to non-recyclable waxed paper. Several prominent packaging machine manufacturers within the confectionery sector have successfully tested this paper and are highly impressed with its performance.
