Xampla, the creator of plastic-free, natural materials, is expanding its team to scale-up the commercialization of its biodegradable Morro materials. The latest addition to the team is Dr. Francys Fernandez Zavarce, who brings more than 20 years of experience in chemical science and business development.

As the new Specialty Chemical Business Development Manager, Dr. Zavarce will oversee the scale-up of Morro materials across FMCG markets, with a focus on accelerating the commercialization of Morro Coating, a plant-based material that replaces “forever chemicals” and plastic coatings traditionally used on paper and cardboard packaging. The material is fully biodegradable, home compostable, and safe for food contact.

Dr. Zavarce will engage key stakeholders across industries and collaborate with technical and product development teams to advance R&D and commercial goals of the application. This new appointment comes as Xampla continues to make strides in its mission to eliminate plastic, having recently completed a successful funding round and being awarded the Innovate UK Smart Grant.

According to Alexandra French, CEO at Xampla, “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Francys Zavarce to our team as we continue to expand our team of experts year on year.” Dr. Zavarce also expressed her excitement, stating, “I’m honored to join this thriving organization and to have the opportunity to drive the commercial growth of Xampla’s remarkable innovations. The global plastic pollution crisis is an urgent problem that fuels my passion for advancing new-age solutions.”
