Spain-based snacks producer Aperitivos Snack has recently acquired La Gaviota Alimentación, a fellow player within the snacks category.

This strategic acquisition, centered in the Canary Islands, aims to enhance Aperitivos Snack’s diversification and growth trajectory, particularly within the nut segment of the snacks market.

According to Aperitivos Snack, La Gaviota has established itself as a “benchmark in the food market in the Canary Islands,” demonstrating significant brand recognition across its operational channels.

The Italian company has stated that the current owners of La Gaviota, the Pérez Alonso family, “will remain linked to the group, with strategic and operational contributions from Aperitivos Snack.”

David Pérez Alonso, who has served as the general manager of La Gaviota for an impressive 30 years since 1995, is poised to collaborate closely in this new chapter.

Alonso remarked, “The integration of the company by Aperitivos Snack allows us to begin a new stage of consolidation and growth in the sector, maintaining the quality and good service that has always characterised La Gaviota Alimentación.”

Jorge Sánchez Álamo, general manager of Aperitivos Snack, expressed, “It is a privilege to be able to participate in the development and consolidation of the nuts sector in the (Canary) islands with the culture of quality and professionalism of La Gaviota Alimentación.”

Moreover, he added, “The complementarity of products and channels encourages us to think that, with the step taken, both companies, their workers, and customers will undoubtedly benefit.”

Aperitivos Snack, established in 1987, has its headquarters in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain.

The company’s product portfolio includes savory snacks, biscuits, sweets, and chocolates, with a workforce of approximately 230 individuals.

Founded in 1982, La Gaviota offers a diverse assortment of nuts and dried fruits—such as dehydrated exotic fruits, cereals, and seeds. Additionally, the business imports nuts and fruits from 30 different countries, including the US, Mexico, India, France, and Spain.

Notable brands under its umbrella include Isola, Najor, and Bentor.

According to La Gaviota’s website, it claims to provide “complete regional coverage through its own infrastructure and staff,” including a wholesale sales point in Mercatenerife, which services the hospitality sector in the Canary Islands.
