Robert Moorhead, formerly the chief financial officer and chief operating officer at WHSmith, will join the Greggs board as of October 1, 2025. Following his tenure at WHSmith, where he retired from the board in November 2024, Moorhead will also assume the role of chair of the audit committee and participate in the nominations and remuneration committees.

In a related development, it has been confirmed that non-executive director and current chair of the audit committee, Kate Ferry, will retire from the board at the end of August.

Commenting on these leadership changes, Greggs chair Matt Davies stated: “Kate has played a key role on the Board of Greggs and I would like to take this moment to thank her for her exceptional contribution over the last six years.”

“While we are very sorry to see her go, we are delighted that Robert has accepted our invitation to join the Board. His financial expertise in a listed company environment, together with his significant experience in retail, will be of great benefit to our business.”

This announcement comes on the heels of Greggs reporting a 14.3% year-on-year decline in pre-tax profit during the first half of 2025. Notably, this decline occurred despite a 7% increase in sales, with figures rising from £960.6 million to over £1 billion.

In addition to these financial updates, Greggs confirmed that progress on its new frozen manufacturing and logistics campus in Derby and the national distribution centre in Kettering is proceeding as planned.

The logistics segment at the Derby site is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2026, while the Kettering site aims to be operational by early 2027. Furthermore, the firm stated that space has been reserved at both locations for potential future logistics and manufacturing expansion.

Finally, Greggs announced the expansion of its frozen ‘Bake at Home’ range through a new partnership with Tesco, set to launch in September. This initiative will introduce an initial selection of five products in over 800 stores.
