DB Foods has proudly expanded its headquarters at Fulcrum Business Park in Poole, Dorset, by adding a new factory after an intense eight-month project.

This expansion stems from the increasing retail partnerships that the meat distributor has established, bringing the total operational space to an impressive 25,000 sq. ft.

The initial designs for the new factory were revealed in March 2024. Subsequently, installation commenced in July and was successfully completed by October, perfectly aligning with the launch of their first contract for Halloween products with Aldi.

Equipped with bespoke machinery from local provider Sealpac, the facility currently employs a workforce of 90, with plans to increase this number to 130 by the end of January 2025. Moreover, there is potential for growth, reaching up to 150 employees over the next year.

“The new refrigeration technology blew my mind,” remarked Dr. Margaret Boanas, chairman of The International Meat Trade Association, during the official opening of the new facility. “Using glycol rather than gas to reduce CO2 emissions is an incredible innovation to address the environmental concerns often levelled at the meat industry.”

“At the heart of the new factory is the concept of an activity flow that increases efficiency and capacity,” explained Graeme Clapp, commercial director at DB Foods. “We can handle product preparation for all types of recipe requirements, from the straight-forward to the highly complex.”

“We knew we complied with retail standards, but wanted to raise our game by meeting the demands of specific retailers (for example, replacing our loading bays in compliance with Tesco Assured) and environmental standards, both now and in the future.”

This expansion, part of a £3 million investment, forecasts a significant turnover potential of £30 million by 2027.

Moreover, this growth comes on the heels of DB Foods Group’s strategic decision to divest from the loss-making Muscle Foods business in March 2022. A thorough review identified promising growth opportunities for DB Foods Limited.

Analysis of the latest report from Companies House reveals that the business has achieved an impressive turnover increase of £11 million (12%) from 2 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.
