The Magnum Ice Cream Company has begun manufacturing Ben & Jerry’s products at its Heppenheim plant in Germany, following a €30 million investment to expand the facility.
The newly installed production line will make Ben & Jerry’s pint formats, including Cookie Dough and Chocolate Fudge Brownie, increasing the brand’s European production capacity. Heppenheim will complement the company’s established Ben & Jerry’s manufacturing operations in Hellendoorn, the Netherlands, and Gloucester, UK.
“Our team in Heppenheim has been making ice cream for 66 years. This expertise, combined with the site’s central location in Europe, made Heppenheim the natural choice for expanding Ben & Jerry’s production for the European market. Producing premium pints with large chunks and swirls is technically demanding and building this capability at Heppenheim strengthens our ability to bring innovative products to consumers across Europe in the years ahead,” Nikolaus Huber, GM DACH, The Magnum Ice Cream Company.
With a footprint of 100,000 sq m, Heppenheim is the largest site in The Magnum Ice Cream Company’s European manufacturing network. The factory supplies the German market as well as neighbouring countries across Europe.
The broader capital investment includes upgrades to logistics operations, cold storage capacity and the site’s energy infrastructure.
