In a surprising move, Glanbia, a leading player in the Irish ingredients sector, announced its decision to split its operations into two distinct units: Health & Nutrition and Dairy Nutrition. Moreover, the company raised its full-year financial outlook, projecting an impressive growth rate of 5% to 8% in its third-quarter update, which reflects broader food and beverage industry trends.

Year-to-date performance indicates that Glanbia Nutritional is meeting expectations, reporting a 6% increase in group revenues. Notably, volumes increased across the board with Nutritional Solutions rising by 5%, Performance Nutrition by 3.2%, and Glanbia Nutritionals by 2%. Conversely, US cheese experienced a slight volume dip of 0.7%, yet overall volumes still rose by 1.6%.

Volume Growth at Glanbia

Despite the volume drop, cheese revenues in the United States increased by 6.1%, primarily due to a 3.9% price hike. CEO Hugh McGuire remarked, “Volume growth was driven by our protein growth brands Optimum Nutrition and Isopure, as well as premix protein solutions.”

During the third quarter, group net debt surged from $284.8 million to $619.7 million. However, the company has secured debt facilities totaling $1.3 billion. This new organizational structure is poised to streamline operations and “sharpen our focus on our end use markets, and position ourselves for the next phase of growth,” McGuire added.

Glanbia’s New Structure

The Health & Nutrition division will encompass premix solutions and flavor formats, while the Dairy Nutrition segment will concentrate on cheese and dairy ingredients, integrating protein solutions along with US cheese. The rollout of this model is anticipated during the 2025 financial year, with operational updates provided throughout the year.

To maximize the benefits of this operational restructuring, Glanbia is initiating a comprehensive group-wide transformation program aimed at funding and facilitating the next growth phase. As stated, “The program will focus on identifying opportunities to enhance productivity and drive efficiencies across operations, accelerating digital transformation and ensuring the group is well positioned to capitalize on future market growth opportunities.”
