Pladis, a snack company, has invested £12 million in opening a new warehouse in Carlisle, leading to the creation of 50 new jobs.
In the past 18 months, over 150 individuals were recruited by Pladis for permanent positions. The company is known for manufacturing products under renowned brands like McVitie’s, Jacob’s, and Carr’s.
The Carlisle warehouse, valued at £2 million, was inaugurated by Carlisle MP John Stevenson. Stevenson commended the opening, stating: “I was delighted to inaugurate the warehouse extension at Pladis’ Carlisle factory. This significant multi-million pound investment by Pladis is a welcome addition to the site, providing 50 new employment opportunities for local residents. It further strengthens the Carlisle economy, offering more job prospects for the community.”
The expansion necessitated the construction of a new narrow aisle warehouse, offering capacity for 1600 pallet spaces. Additionally, four new production lines, incorporating advanced processes and packaging formats, were installed.
Commenting on the expansion, David Murray, the UK Managing Director of Pladis, expressed his pride, saying: “The expansion of our Carlisle facility is a significant milestone in our 192-year history in the region.”
