Trinity Seafoods, a new whitefish processing company in Scotland, has been launched by The Don Fishing Company, Seafood Ecosse, and Denholm Seafoods. Based in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, the company will focus on producing smaller-sized and under-utilized sustainable stocks of whitefish, such as haddock. Their products, including fresh and frozen filleted fish fillets and value-added ranges, will be sold to retail and wholesalers in the UK, the EU, and other markets.

The collaboration aims to benefit the local and wider economy by making the best use of sustainable resources. The company will operate from a refurbished facility with a highly automated processing line designed for small whitefish species. Half of the facility’s purchase was funded by a grant from the Scottish Government’s Marine Fund Scotland.

According to Trinity Seafoods, the new venture is expected to create a small number of jobs, with a focus on automating production. Denholm Seafoods specializes in pelagic seafood processing and export, while Seafood Ecosse supplies fresh and frozen fish and seafood. Don Fishing Company is involved in fish sales and vessel management in north-east Scotland.

The managing directors of Seafood Ecosse and Denholm Seafoods believe that the collaboration will benefit fishermen, processors, and support businesses in the supply chain. David Leiper stated, “This collaboration is an excellent example of companies working together for the greater good and developing markets for fish landing in Scotland,” while Richard Duthie added that the move would ensure the best use of sustainably caught whitefish.

Overall, Trinity Seafoods represents a significant step towards optimizing the processing and utilization of whitefish resources in Scotland’s food and beverage industry. By leveraging sustainable practices and collaborative efforts, the company aims to make a positive impact on the local economy and supply chain dynamics within the sector.
