Grupo Miguel Vergara has acquired the Valles del Esla beef business in Spain from the El Enebro group in a move that solidifies its leadership in the Spanish beef sector. The deal, made for an undisclosed sum, brings 1,600 pasture-raised cattle under the company’s ownership.
President and owner Miguel Vergara highlighted the importance of the transaction, stating that it strengthens their position in the high-quality beef segment. He also emphasized their commitment to sustainable production, environmental sensitivity, and rural development.
The Valles del Esla brand, produced at the Neal meat-processing complex in the mountains of León, was established in 1996 by the Álvarez family, according to El Enebro’s website. Following the acquisition, El Enebro will shift its focus to its winery and wine supply business, along with agricultural real estate.
Grupo Miguel Vergara, known for its Vegara Blonde, Vegara Angus, and Vegara Beef brands, boasts the largest livestock herd in Spain, with a strong emphasis on animal welfare and quality.
In seeking more details about the transaction and the operations included in the deal, we has reached out to El Enebro for comment. However, Marta Guirao, the general manager of El Enebro, has yet to respond to inquiries. Guirao previously praised Valles del Esla for its reputation of excellence in the market, attributing it to the brand’s dedication to quality and strong relationships with customers and suppliers.
As Grupo Miguel Vergara continues to expand its presence in the food and beverage industry, this acquisition marks a strategic move towards furthering their farm-to-fork business model. Transitioning from El Enebro to Grupo Miguel Vergara, the Valles del Esla beef business is poised for continued growth and success in the Spanish market.
