Kellogg’s cereal maker Kellanova has officially confirmed the closure of its factory in Manchester, UK, impacting approximately 360 jobs. The Trafford Park site, which produces popular cereals such as Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, and Coco Pops for retailers in the UK and Ireland, is set to shut down due to outdated infrastructure and unfeasible future investment costs.
According to Chris Silcock, Managing Director of Kellanova’s UK business, the site’s layout from the 1930s and inefficient manufacturing processes led to the inevitable decision to cease operations. Despite this closure, Kellanova aims to maintain production volumes and plans for potential reorganization later this year.
Trade union Usdaw’s area organizer Mick Murray expressed disappointment over the closure, highlighting the site’s inability to accommodate modern manufacturing processes. This announcement follows Kellanova’s decision to restructure its frozen supply chain network in North America, demonstrating a strategic shift to enhance productivity in key markets.
