Ehrmann, the renowned German dairy group, is poised to establish local production in the UK.
The privately-owned company will initiate a £20m ($27.1m) project at its recently acquired site in Cornwall.
In June last year, Ehrmann acquired Trewithen Dairy, located in Lostwithiel, South-west England.
Following this acquisition, the German firm established Ehrmann Cornish Dairy to oversee its UK operations, which also include the Ehrmann UK office in Worcestershire.
The company aims to create a chilled desserts facility at the Trewithen Dairy site by next year. This new unit will produce Ehrmann products that are currently imported into the UK.
Currently, Trewithen Dairy manufactures branded and own-label dairy products, including milk, butter, and cream.
When asked about the project’s impact on jobs, the company reiterated a statement from last year’s acquisition, noting it “held over 200 jobs” and that the ongoing development of Ehrmann Cornish Dairy would facilitate the creation of additional roles, particularly in innovation and manufacturing.
The latest accounts filed at Companies House, the UK’s business register, cover the period prior to Ehrmann’s acquisition of Trewithen Dairy.
For the 12 months ending 30 April 2024, Trewithen Dairy reported a turnover of £86.2m, down from £95.9m the previous year.
During this time, the company achieved an operating profit of £1.1m, a significant turnaround from the previous year’s operating loss of £1m.
It posted a net profit of £336,548, compared to a net loss of £1.5m for the year ending 30 April 2023.
In its commentary on these results, the business highlighted that it has “continued to trade strongly, growing market share in key added-value sectors and increasing volumes”.
