Altho Brets, a France-based potato crisp maker, is confirming its plans to open a new production site by the end of 2025. The company is set to invest nearly €100m ($107.7m) in the construction of the plant, which will be located near its existing factory in Pontivy Communauté, Brittany. This significant investment will increase the company’s production capacity by 15,000 tons, aiming to meet the growing demand for crisps in France.
According to the company, the crisps category in France witnessed a sales growth of over 4% in 2022, with 40% of crisps in the country being imported. Construction for the new site is expected to start in the second half of 2024, with production scheduled to begin by the end of the following year. Laurent Cavard, the CEO of Altho Brets, anticipates that the investment will create “more than 40 jobs.”
Furthermore, the company plans to “modernise” their existing site to improve productivity where 336 employees are currently working. Altho Brets manufactures for major retailers including Auchan, Aldi, and Intermarché.
In addition to their operations in France, the company also has a plant in Portugal and is working on expanding their business internationally, both with the Bret’s brand and private-label products. In 2022, Altho Brets achieved a turnover of €206m.
