Spar Scotland formed a partnership with the Scottish FA in 2019 to sponsor the Scotland Women’s National Team (SWNT). This collaboration has not only raised the profile of the team but also led to increased investment in girls’ and women’s grassroots football across the country.

One of the highlights of this partnership is the Spar Future Stars Challenge Cup, a nationwide girl’s football competition that spans across Scotland. This initiative provides an inclusive and competitive platform for schoolgirls aged between 12-16 years to participate in the sport. It has gained immense popularity, with the 2023 competition boasting a record-breaking participation of 300 teams and over 3,000 girls.

Registrations for the 2024 competition are already open, and more than 80 teams have already signed up to take part.

Building on the success of the partnership, Spar Scotland has recently extended its sponsorship agreement with the Scottish FA until August 2027, gaining new rights in the process. As part of this extension, Spar Scotland will now sponsor the Women’s Scottish Cup domestic games for the next four years. This prestigious competition attracts a significant fan base, with over 10,000 spectators filling Hampden Park last season for the Women’s Scottish Cup Final, which was broadcast nationally on BBC One Scotland.

This extended partnership allows Spar Scotland to further grow the competition while also gaining exposure through media interview backdrops and stadium advertisements.

During the relaunch of the partnership at Hampden Park on 8 August, Colin McLean, the CEO of Spar Scotland, expressed his delight and emphasized the shared benefits, stating, “We are extremely pleased to extend our well-established partnership with the Scottish FA until 2027. Over the past four years, our collaboration combining the well-known Spar brand with one of Scotland’s leading female sports has enabled us to reach a wider customer base.”

Mr. McLean also highlighted the importance of providing competitive opportunities for girls across Scotland and acknowledged the excellent working relationship between Spar and the Scottish FA.

Echoing this sentiment, Andy Gould, the Chief Football Officer of the Scottish FA, emphasized the strategic significance of Spar’s support in driving female participation and inspiring the next generation of players. He praised the Spar Future Stars Challenge Cup for providing a fun and safe environment for girls to enjoy the sport and expressed gratitude for Spar’s continued backing of the Scotland Women’s National Team.

Spar Scotland’s ongoing partnership with the Scottish FA encourages young people to lead active and healthy lifestyles while supporting girls at grassroots levels, with the ultimate aim of representing the Scotland Women’s national team.

In summary, Spar Scotland’s partnership with the Scottish FA has made significant contributions to the development and promotion of women’s football in Scotland. This collaboration has not only provided competitive opportunities for girls through initiatives like the Spar Future Stars Challenge Cup but has also helped increase female participation, inspire the next generation, and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. Looking ahead, both Spar and the Scottish FA are excited about the future prospects of this successful partnership.
