Margiotta, a family-run business, is expanding with a new store in the heart of Edinburgh’s Harrison Gardens. Thanks to funding, the company has bought and fitted out a spacious 2,000 sq ft premises. This new store will be its second outlet in the Shandon district of the city.

One of Margiotta’s core objectives is to use local suppliers for their products. The store has partnered with a few local suppliers like Fortitude Coffee and Heather Hills Honey to provide food and drink offerings. In addition, the store will also offer a range of homeware products.

The store’s offerings extend beyond just newspapers to include sit-in or take-away options for homemade gelato, paninis, and coffee. The new store is expected to open doors this summer, creating approximately 20 jobs.

“We and our customers value local produce from quality suppliers, so we’re looking forward to expanding our product range with our increased footprint,” said Founder and Managing Director Franco Margiotta. “Thanks to HSBC UK’s support, we’ve grasped the opportunity to buy this new space and explore a new venture as we bring to life our first café-style venture at our older store.”

Margiotta was founded by Franco and his siblings after they moved to Edinburgh from Picinisco, a small village in central Italy. Their first store opened on Marchmont Road in the early 1970s.

In essence, Margiotta’s growth is indeed a sign that the business is thriving, and its dedication to quality, local products will set it apart.
