Lantmännen’s meat and charcuterie business, Scan Sverige, has secured an agreement to acquire the Swedish peer Lindvalls Chark. This strategic move aims to broaden its business portfolio.
Although the financial specifics of the transaction remain undisclosed, Lantmännen emphasizes that this acquisition will fortify Sverige’s status as Sweden’s leading meat and charcuterie company.
In a recent statement, Magnus Kagevik, Lantmännen group president and CEO, stated, “The acquisition of Lindvalls complements Scan Sverige’s existing business and brands in an excellent way. Lindvalls is a well-known company that is now becoming fully Swedish again.”
Founded in 1925, Lindvalls Chark has been a part of the Norwegian Jordaneskoncernen since 2017; however, it will now operate under Swedish ownership.
Lindvalls Chark specializes in producing a wide range of sausages and charcuterie sourced from local Swedish farms.
The company employs nearly 100 individuals and generates an annual turnover of approximately Skr400m ($37.18m).
Operating from its production facility in Strömsnäsbruk, located in Småland, Lindvalls produces around 8,000 tonnes of sausages annually. The company serves both the service trade sector and the retail market under its own brand.
As part of the transaction, Scan Sverige will oversee the “entire Lindvalls Chark operation.”
Nevertheless, the company plans to manage Lindvalls as a separate business unit, while ensuring production remains at the Strömsnäsbruk facility.
Subject to regulatory approval, the deal is expected to finalize in the first half of this year.
In March last year, <a href=”https://www.just-food.com/news/hkscan-to-sell-its-swedish-business-to-lantmannen/?cf-view” target=”_blank”>Lantmännen acquired HKScan’s Swedish operations</a> for €60m ($65.9m) and subsequently rebranded them as Scan Sverige.
Headquartered in Stockholm, Scan, which also encompasses the Pärsons and Bullens brands, employs around 1,800 people and operates production facilities in Kristianstad, Skara, Linköping, and Halmstad.
Scan Sverige MD Lars Appelqvist expressed, “Our acquisition of Lindvalls will further strengthen our position, not least in the convenience area – and with their expertise and well-reputed brand, we further our access to a flexible and customer-oriented organisation.”
Furthermore, he added, “The acquisition also enables us to continue leading the way forward in terms of increased, sustainable meat production – along with members, colleagues, and suppliers.”
