The new compostable packaging for Datekin’s individual 60g portions of Sukkari dates is engineered to decompose within 26 weeks in domestic compost heaps and just 12 weeks in industrial composting facilities. This innovative design not only serves as a sustainable wrapper but also aligns seamlessly with Lama’s sustainability messaging, ensuring that these all-natural dates are complemented by packaging that breaks down into organic materials.

Staci Bye, Sales Account Manager at Parkside, expressed, “Consumers increasingly expect brands to back up what they say when it comes to sustainability messaging. Packaging is the perfect medium to demonstrate those sustainable principles in a way that consumers can easily engage with, and a compostable pack is the ideal complement for a natural, healthy snack product like dates.”

“I want to thank the team at Lama for their collaboration on this project and for trusting us to deliver a solution that represents their commitment to sustainability and transparency. This project proves that high barrier, high-performance compostable packaging is an effective strategy for reducing waste in individually packaged snack applications.”

The packaging utilizes Parkside’s renowned Park2Nature™ material, which consists of cellulose-based layers enhanced by water-based barrier coatings. This innovative approach ensures that the packaging decomposes into nothing more than water, carbon dioxide, and biomass during composting.

Liam Allen, Head of eCommerce and Branding at Lama, stated, “Sustainable packaging is no longer just an option—it’s a responsibility. Consumers are demanding eco-friendly solutions, and we are proud to meet that demand with innovative, recyclable, and compostable packaging that minimizes environmental impact without compromising quality or convenience.”

“The team at Parkside went the extra mile to fulfill all of our requirements, swiftly transitioning from concept to production without any compromise on quality. At Lama, we prioritize speed, care, and transparency in our operations, making it a pleasure to collaborate with a packaging partner who shares our ethos.”
