La Española, a prominent name in the olive oil industry, is set to unveil Olimole—an innovative guacamole that infuses the traditional Mexican recipe with a Mediterranean twist. Instead of avocado, this new product incorporates olives, a staple deeply embedded in our culinary heritage. The launch is scheduled for October 21.
Olimole not only preserves the classic texture and flavor of guacamole but also enriches it with a distinct Mediterranean essence. This initiative reflects La Española’s commitment to celebrating native ingredients while adapting to modern tastes.
With this launch, La Española aligns with the growing consumer trend towards healthier snack options, offering a fresh perspective on a recipe that has become integral to Spanish culture.
Sergio Alberola, the General Director of La Española, emphasizes that the objective is to provide consumers with an alternative to traditional guacamole, resulting in a unique product that incorporates the distinctive Mediterranean characteristics of olives.
“In its careful preparation, the Olimole includes ingredients such as garlic, onion, lemon juice, salt, and cilantro, which are reminiscent of typical guacamole. The differentiating element lies in the olives, a product local and house brand of La Española,” explains Alberola.
According to a survey conducted by Origin Insights for Hispaniola, 90% of consumers who tasted the Olimole recipe perceive it as ‘a unique product’. Additionally, 75% of participants praised its intense olive flavor, creamy texture, and subtle taste.
Notably, Spain stands as one of the leading snack consumers in Europe, with an annual expenditure of €57.5 per capita, as highlighted in the report ‘A Country of Snacks’ prepared by Sigma Alimentación. Moreover, an increasing interest in healthy alternatives is evident, as 14.8% of consumers express a preference for a healthier diet, according to consulting firm Kantar.
Alberola reiterates that the rising preference for healthier snack options is a significant market trend.
“The olive is an appetiser that has persisted over time not only for its flavor but also for its benefits, being rich in healthy fatty acids, antioxidants, and fiber. Therefore, we have decided to go one step further and integrate our star product, the olive, into an innovative format, thus creating our Olimole,” Alberola adds.
