Farm Dairy Netherlands and PlanetDairy Denmark are excited to unveil a groundbreaking solution tailored for consumers who often grapple with the choice between the sustainability of plant-based alternatives and the rich flavor and nutrition of traditional dairy.
By collaborating, these two industry leaders have developed a new line of milk products that beautifully blends high-quality dairy with plant ingredients. This innovative line is designed to empower milk enthusiasts with options that harmonize taste and sustainability.
Launch at PLMA’s annual World of Private Label International Trade Show in Amsterdam, the new milk drink combines dairy and plant proteins and will be offered in skimmed, semi-skimmed, and whole versions. Notably, these products boast a minimum 20% reduction in CO2 emissions, validated by CarbonCloud. By leveraging sustainable dairy milk as their foundation, the products will enable customers across Europe to make significant strides toward their corporate sustainability goals.
“Consumers are willing to prioritize sustainable food options, but they refuse to compromise on taste, nutrition, or price,” states Jakob Skovgaard, co-founder and CEO of PlanetDairy. “Following the success and learnings from our blended cheese products in the Nordics, we are now poised to address the largest dairy category—milk.”
Moreover, Arend Bouwer, managing director of Farm Dairy, adds, “As a trusted private label dairy partner for nearly three decades, we are thrilled to explore new opportunities in this dynamic sector through this launch. The new range is a testament to our unwavering commitment to innovation and sustainability.”
While plant-based milk alternatives have been present since the last century, they currently capture a modest market share. Yet, Farm Dairy and PlanetDairy are confident that blended products, combining the best elements of milk and plant ingredients, can engage a much larger audience.
“We are targeting dairy lovers who are mindful of the environmental impacts of traditional dairy,” explains Jakob Skovgaard. “By offering a retail price and taste comparable to conventional dairy, we believe we can cultivate a broader consumer base.”
Bouwer elaborates, “We anticipate that this range will become the benchmark for the ‘flexitarian’ group of consumers. Our goal is to emerge as the preferred mainstream alternative, and we are optimistic that this will soon set the category standard.” Conclusively, Jakob stated, “Both our companies are actively researching the next steps in dairy-plant blends, including yogurts and sweet desserts, further cementing our dedication to taste and sustainability.”
