Dutch cheese producer Cono Kaasmakers has made a strategic move by acquiring local herb butter producer Jacques’ Kruidenboter. This acquisition aims to enhance its market position in the food and beverage industry.

While the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, Cono Kaasmakers has emphasized that the addition of Jacques’ product line is a significant asset to its portfolio. By incorporating butter into its offerings, the company is poised to meet evolving food and drink consumer trends, complementing its existing range of premium cheeses.

Cono Kaasmakers is recognized for its expertise in cheese production, with well-known brands such as Beemster and ‘t Kaas Lokaal. Jerry Griep, the managing director, stated, “In a challenging market, collaboration is the key to progress.” He added that through this acquisition, the two companies can leverage their collective knowledge and passion, thus remaining authentic to their core values.

Founded in Den Helder, Jacques’ Kruidenboter specializes in herb butter, white cheese, and seasonings. The company has multiple brands, including Beurre Trèfle and Solataki, and serves customers in the supermarket sector, food service, and the broader food industry, both domestically and internationally. Importantly, it also develops products for various private label brands.

Cono Kaasmakers reassured stakeholders that the Den Helder factory will continue operations without immediate changes to personnel or production methods. The company expressed that this acquisition presents “continuity and new growth opportunities” for Jacques’ Kruidenboter.

Furthermore, Jacques’ Kruidenboter’s founder, Wim van der Linden, articulated confidence in the acquisition, stating that Cono “feels like a natural successor.” He emphasized that the alignment among employees, customers, and partners is promising.

Established in 1901 by a collective of North Holland dairy farmers, Cono Kaasmakers operates with over 400 member farmers. The company runs a modern cheese factory located in the Beemster region, north of Amsterdam. Its products are distributed not only in the Netherlands but also in several European countries, including Belgium, Germany, and Scandinavia. Beyond Europe, Cono has also expanded its reach into markets in Chile and Australia.

This acquisition signals a proactive approach to addressing the evolving landscape of the food and drink business, ensuring that Cono Kaasmakers remains a leader amid current industry trends.
