DoorDash, a leading food delivery platform, has teamed up with drone delivery company Wing to introduce a pioneering drone delivery pilot in Christiansburg, Virginia. This initiative allows “select local customers” to order eligible menu items from Wendy’s, a popular fast-food vendor, and have them delivered via drone.

Senior Director of DoorDash Labs, Harrison Shih, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Wing in the US, stating, “We are excited to expand our partnership with Wing in the US to integrate drone delivery into DoorDash’s ecosystem.” The collaboration aims to enhance last-mile logistics and provide a multimodal delivery platform that serves all sides of the marketplace.

Following the success of a drone delivery pilot program in Queensland, Australia, DoorDash and Wing have now launched a similar program in Christiansburg. This expansion showcases the venture’s commitment to offering more efficient, sustainable, and convenient delivery options for consumers.

Cosimo Leipold, head of partnerships at Wing, highlighted the success witnessed in Australia, where Wing has served tens of thousands of customers through the DoorDash app for over a year. With over 350,000 deliveries made across three countries, Wing is focused on providing a fast, affordable, and safe service to partners to enhance the last-mile delivery ecosystem.

By selecting the drone delivery option in the DoorDash app, customers with an eligible address can receive their orders from a Wing drone in “typically 30 minutes or less.” DoorDash anticipates that this partnership will offer a quick and sustainable delivery option for small, short-distance orders while potentially driving incremental order growth across the platform.

This collaboration between DoorDash and Wing signifies a strategic move towards enhancing delivery services and meeting the evolving needs of customers in the US market.
