Tesco has expanded its fleet in Livingston, Scotland, by adding 42 new IVECO S-Way Natural Gas 4×2 trucks, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing a zero-emission heavy goods vehicles (HGV) fleet.
These trucks will play a crucial role in transporting food and essential goods to Tesco locations throughout Scotland. Each vehicle is anticipated to cover approximately 200,000 km annually, translating to a potential reduction of up to 6,473 tonnes of CO² emissions across the fleet.
Equipped with the innovative xCursor13 CNG engine, the new IVECO S-Way delivers a remarkable 500hp, establishing it as the most powerful monofuel natural gas truck currently available on the market.
Significantly, the IVECO S-Way can achieve up to 95% CO² reduction compared to a conventional diesel truck when operating on bio-CNG. This underlines the vehicle’s potential for a substantial environmental impact.
In addition, Tesco has collaborated with CNG Fuels to establish a refueling station adjacent to its Regional Distribution Centre, providing added convenience and flexibility for its operations.
Cliff Smith, Tesco’s fleet engineering manager, commented: “We are excited to introduce these eco-friendly trucks to our fleet. These vehicles represent a significant step towards our goal of reducing emissions and achieving carbon neutrality in our operations by 2035. By investing in biomethane technology and partnering with IVECO and CNG Fuels, we are committed to driving positive change and pioneering sustainable practices in the retail sector.”
