DHL eCommerce, a vital segment of DHL Group, has officially opened a new depot in Minworth, Birmingham.
This state-of-the-art facility is poised to enhance handling capacity by 50%, facilitating service across more than 80 core routes throughout the year, with an additional 30 routes during peak seasons.
Developed by Mileway, the newly refurbished site spans approximately 104,000 ft² and is strategically located within the Midlands’ ‘Golden Triangle’. This prime location will enable DHL eCommerce to better serve a wider customer base across the Midlands.
Notably, the depot has achieved an EPC ‘A’ rating and operates entirely on electricity. With 13 electric vehicle charging points, the facility is dedicated to minimizing delivery emissions. Additionally, it incorporates an integrated rainwater harvesting system to significantly reduce on-site water usage.
Stuart Hill, CEO of DHL eCommerce UK, stated: “We are thrilled to announce the opening of this new depot in Birmingham. As demand continues to grow across the UK, having a strategic location in the Midlands that connects us to even more customers is crucial.”
He further emphasized, “The location coupled with the sustainability credentials of the new site means we will serve more customers, more efficiently and more sustainably.”
This new depot is part of DHL eCommerce’s €560 million (approximately £483.8 million) investment in the UK, as announced in 2022. This follows the successful opening of two additional sites earlier this year: a 55,000 ft² facility in Newcastle and a 269,000 ft² parcel hub in Coventry.
