Beacon Foods, a prominent Welsh company located in Brecon, has reappointed Jas Singh as its Operations Director after his departure during the 2020 pandemic.
Singh commenced his career with the company 25 years ago as a shop floor worker. Over the next nine years, he advanced to the position of Operations Manager, before pursuing new challenges at Unilever.
Following a seven-year stint at Beacon Foods as Head of Operations, where he contributed to significant expansion plans, Singh opted for redundancy in 2020 to relocate his work closer to his home in Ebbw Vale. During this period, he undertook various production roles at notable firms including Hovis, Avara Foods, Finsbury Food Group, and most recently, Euro Foods Group.
As he embarks on his third term with the company, Singh joins Beacon Foods at a critical juncture—one marked by over £6 million invested in a three-year expansion program. He expresses his desire to remain with an organization he ‘knows so well’ until retirement.
“When I last worked for the company, we were planning expansion which has now happened under the guidance of chairman, Edward Gough. The business has grown to what we originally envisaged and Edward was very proud to show me what had been achieved,” Singh reflected.
“With the extra capacity that we have in the factory, the business is in a great position to drive forward. We knew where the growth points were before the pandemic, and now the plan has come to fruition, providing ample opportunities for development,” he added.
“We are still processing vegetables, but we are doing them in so many different formats and processes, enabling us to supply a broader customer base,” Singh noted.
“Edward has invested heavily in the factory over the last four years and, in the last six months, has made another £1.5 million investment in two cooking kettles, a bowl chopper, and a sachet line to increase production capacity. It’s an exciting time for volume, growth, and efficiency,” he stated.
“We are also exploring more automation; however, we will never be fully automated because flexibility is essential to meet the diverse needs of our large customer base,” he explained.
“There is real cohesion throughout the business, with everyone working together towards the same goal. It’s an exciting time to be here, with customers approaching us for products because they recognize our commitment to first-class customer service and high-quality bespoke ingredients,” Singh concluded.
Beacon Foods offers a diverse portfolio that includes original garlic, ginger, and chili purees, chilled or IQF roasted vegetables, along with kettle-cooked sauces available in bulk, individual portion dip pots, or sachets. These ingredients feature prominently in countless products, including sandwiches, ready meals, pizzas, soups, drinks, and desserts.
