Gavin Chappell has been appointed to a significant role at Asda, marking a return to the retailer after nearly a decade. Previously, Chappell held various vice president positions at Asda from September 2009 until March 2015. Following his tenure at Asda, he took on senior leadership roles at Dunelm, Holland & Barrett, and most recently, Bensons for Beds, where he has served as Chief Operating Officer since August 2022.
In his upcoming position at Asda, which he will assume in April, Chappell will oversee the food and general merchandising supply teams. His extensive background in operations and supply chain roles is expected to be invaluable. Reporting directly to Chief Supply Chain Officer David Lepley, Chappell’s return comes alongside Lepley’s own appointment, having transitioned back to Asda from a prior role at Morrisons.
Commenting on this strategic hire, Lepley stated, “I’m delighted to welcome Gavin Chappell back to Asda after nearly 10 years. We know that the key to delivering legendary service and great value is ensuring customers can get the products they want each and every time they shop at Asda. Gavin’s knowledge of the business and considerable experience in logistics and supply chain functions will ensure we can continue meeting the needs of hardworking families.”
For the past five years, Lepley served as Group Retailer Director at Morrisons after departing Asda in 2016.
In other developments at Asda, the retailer recently announced a £2 million investment in its Pilsworth store located in Greater Manchester. This major upgrade includes a fresh modern look with new feature lighting and updated signage within the 61,000 square foot store.
“After months of hard work from all involved, we’re excited to welcome the local community into our newly upgraded Pilsworth store,” said Store General Manager Dan Grindrod. “This investment has enabled us to create a modern shopping environment that makes it easier for the customers we serve to find the products and value they’ve come to expect from Asda.”
