MCC Group, a pioneer in food and drink packaging, recently unveiled an innovative supply chain strategy that has significantly enhanced their manufacturing capabilities for high volumes of PP/EVOH/PP barrier trays, effectively doubling their production capacity as they gear up for 2025.

As the demand for sustainable food and drink packaging materials escalates in the UK food manufacturing sector, MCC Group Ltd has successfully established a pivotal new production pathway. By forging partnerships with selected global extrusion facilities, making substantial investments in advanced tooling, and leveraging trusted thermoforming capabilities in the UK, they are poised to provide solutions that not only meet but exceed industry needs. They shared this exciting development through their LinkedIn announcement, revealing that the new measures will more than double their unit capacity by 2025. This response addresses the challenges faced by food manufacturers in securing a consistent supply of high barrier PP materials in recent years, significantly enhancing availability in the UK and thereby shortening lead times for the ambient ready meal market.

Operating extensively across the UK, MCC Group Ltd collaborates with leading food manufacturers and retailers to deliver innovative and tailored retail packaging solutions across a variety of substrates and formats. As customer demand continues to surge across the sector, they are actively working to ensure the stability of global supply chains for materials into the UK. This initiative not only offers new options to the food manufacturing sector but also fosters reliability and consistency within the high-volume production landscape.

Through these efforts, MCC Group has successfully established a creative and meticulously managed supply chain for high barrier (PP/EVOH/PP) trays and base webs, essential for prolonging product shelf life while accommodating ambient meal storage. Already, this initiative has spurred a rapid increase in orders for the company:

“This product is simply in high demand from our customers, and over the last few years we’ve seen businesses struggle to secure their own supplies – with our new customers saying running out of product has been a huge challenge for them previously. Within the first 6 weeks we’ve already had orders for over 10 million units made with barrier PP, and we’re expecting this to remain with continued strong growth.”

-Michael McCahery, Managing Director

This development is one of a series of supply chain innovations undertaken by MCC Group. They have recently secured UK distribution with European foils manufacturer Cuki Cofresco, alongside exclusive supply agreements for base webs, thermoforming flexible films, and Sous Vide suitable products from Europe and Asia into the UK market.

Looking ahead, MCC Group is committed to further expansion. Their goal is to continuously provide high-quality products in large, reliable volumes, empowering retailers and manufacturers to securely grow their product offerings.
