Introducing the Tethered SIG MaxxCap: Terra Alegre Achieves Global First

Introducing the Tethered SIG MaxxCap: Terra Alegre Achieves Global First Global first, SIG MaxxCap Linked, Terra Alegre, tethered Food and Beverage Business

Terra Alegre, the international retail and consumer goods Jerónimo Martins Group’s dairy factory, has partnered with SIG to offer a sustainable solution to its customers. The solution involves the SIG MaxxCap Linked, which has been added to Terra Alegre’s portfolio of products. The SIG MaxxCap Linked is a tethered cap that is designed to be used on SIG’s carton packs.

This move by Terra Alegre and SIG is to stay ahead of the European Union’s Single-Use Plastics Directive. The directive requires all single-use beverage containers to have caps that stay attached to the pack. By July 2024, all such containers need to comply with this requirement. This action will ensure that the caps are disposed of and recycled with the rest of the pack to minimize the adverse impact on the environment.

The SIG MaxxCap Linked is designed to be used on SIG’s current filling machines and closure applicators. This provides long-term investment security for food and beverage manufacturers who need to comply with the EU’s SUP directive. Pedro Freire, Terra Alegre’s managing director, says, “We are committed to providing our clients with the most convenient and sustainable packaging solutions.”

The tethered cap of SIG MaxxCap Linked is easy to use and convenient. By pressing it to the top of the pack until it gets into its ‘parking mode,’ the cap is firmly fixed at the desired position, eliminating the need to hold it down while pouring. When closing the pack, the cap only needs a slight lift before closing in the usual manner. Julio García Cuerva, Head of Sales Iberia at SIG, says, “Working with Terra Alegre ensures the company stays ahead of European regulatory requirements and contributes to minimizing plastic waste leaking into the environment and oceans.”

In conclusion, Terra Alegre’s partnership with SIG has added a sustainable solution to its product portfolio, which is an excellent move for the company and the environment. Using the tethered SIG MaxxCap Linked on SIG’s carton packs demonstrates the adaptability and flexibility of SIG’s packaging and filling solutions. By staying ahead of the European Union’s Single-Use Plastics Directive, Terra Alegre can offer its clients an even more eco-friendly package.
