In a notable collaboration, Alico, a Colombian packaging manufacturer, partnered with ExxonMobil and Kuraray to tackle a critical challenge in the local market: developing high-performance shrink barrier bags that can match or surpass the quality of imported options. This initiative demonstrates a commitment to sustainable packaging solutions within the food and drink industry.
Focusing specifically on the meat packaging sector, the joint effort culminated in the creation of the Termoflex +B barrier shrink bags. This innovative product showcases advancements in performance polyethylene utilized for barrier packaging, thereby enhancing sustainability in food and drink packaging.
Designed through a co-extrusion process in a triple bubble barrier line, Termoflex +B underwent rigorous testing to validate its effectiveness in providing essential food safety features alongside mechanical performance that rivals existing solutions.
The project targeted three fundamental criteria: effective oxygen barrier properties, a high shrinkage range, and a well-balanced relationship between mechanical and optical properties. Meeting these requirements is crucial for aligning with current food and drink consumer trends that prioritize quality and sustainability.
